Monthly Business
Summary
The Halifax Township Board of Supervisors held their monthly business meeting on February 10, 2025, with all five supervisors present: Chairman Kenneth Bechtel, Brad Bruner, Randy Paul, Steve Schreffler, and Scott McBurney. The board moved through a packed agenda over nearly two and a half hours, adopting two major ordinances, approving over $300,000 in vehicle purchases, and addressing land development, infrastructure, and community items — all by unanimous 5-0 votes.
- Two new ordinances adopted. The board enacted an updated Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO), effective February 20, 2025, and a new Stormwater Management Ordinance, modernizing the township's core land use regulations.
- $250,000 Western Star truck purchased with state grant funding. A replacement public works truck was approved at no cost to township taxpayers, fully covered by a grant secured through State Representative Joe Kerwin.
- $56,613 approved for a new Roadmaster truck, a separate vehicle purchase to replace the current road operations truck.
- Hale Land Development Plan conditionally approved on the Planning Commission's recommendation, subject to engineering conditions from HRG's January 31 review letter — including stormwater, solar ordinance, and subdivision compliance — plus a required bond or irrevocable letter of credit for Farm View Drive.
- PennDOT declined a speed reduction on North River Road (SR 0147). After conducting engineering and traffic studies, PennDOT found the existing 55 MPH posting justified, considering roadway geometry, crash data, sight distance, and traffic volume.
- Board endorsed HAWASA's grant application to the Susquehanna River Basin Commission for a project replacing 702 water meters across the authority's service area with new leak-detection-equipped meters.
- Spring Cleanup dates set for May 15–17, 2025, with hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 7:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
- Kayak Camp approved at Fort Halifax Park, contingent on proof of insurance and an agreement to restore any damages, opening the park to a new recreational use.
