Planning Commission

The Halifax Township Planning Commission met on June 5, 2017, with all five members present: Flo Mallonee, Fred Ford, Dwight Hoffman, Randy Paul, and Chad Lebo, joined by Solicitor Bruce Warshawsky and Engineer Tom Wilson. The session focused on reviewing three land development and subdivision proposals and introducing a new township engineer representative.

• Member's First Credit Union sketch plan reviewed: Adam Davis of BL Companies and Dale Gingrich presented a preliminary sketch plan for a new credit union branch at the corner of Peters Mountain Road and Parmer Drive. Commission members discussed traffic concerns on Parmer Drive and at the intersection. Full development plans were expected for the July 3, 2017 meeting.
• Mortorf subdivision accepted for review (5-0): Robert Riley, representing Richard and Linda Mortorf, submitted plans to consolidate two parcels and redistribute boundaries among several properties. The commission unanimously accepted the plans for formal review.
• Lake Tobias Wildlife Park expansion accepted for review (5-0): The wildlife park submitted land development plans for a proposed walkway, new exhibits, and a restroom/concession building. Plans were unanimously accepted for review.
• New township engineer introduced: Tom Wilson introduced Frank Galli of K&W Engineering as the new Halifax Township Engineer representative. Since Galli was unavailable, Engineer Tim DeWire would attend the next meeting on his behalf. The commission also discussed the escrow process for incoming plans, with the engineer expected to set escrow amounts and provide review comments within 14 days of receiving escrow funds.
• Setback waiver inquiry: Resident Derron Pellman asked about building a home addition within the required 20-foot setback, noting he owns the adjacent lot. The commission directed him to submit a Stormwater Management application and a formal waiver request along with his Building Permit Application.
